ISO 3795 Flammability Test Chamber of Automotive Interior Materials ASTM D5132 Horizontal Burning Rate Tester for Polymeric Materials
Overview:
This flammability test apparatus is intended for comparing the relative horizontal burning rates of polymeric materials used in occupant compartments of motor vehicles (cars, multi-purpose passenger cars, trucks and buses). It meets the requirements of ISO3795, DIN75200, ASTM D5132-17, TL1010, GB8410 and etc.
Principle:
The specimen is horizontally held on the U-shaped frame, and after the free end of the sample is ignited for 15 seconds in the combustion chamber using a predetermined height flame, it is determined whether the flame on the specimen is extinguished, or when it is extinguished, the burnt distance and the time to burn distance.
Technical Elements:
System Composition | Control devices, combustion chamber, burner, flow meter, specimen fixture, air pipe and fume hood |
Control Devices | The control part is installed on the left side of the combustion chamber, which integrates timing, flow regulation, lighting, and fan on the control panel. |
Flame Application Timer | 0~999.9/S/M/H, can be preset, accuracy ≤0.5s |
Burning Timer | 0~999.9/S/M/H, accuracy ≤0.5s |
Flame Height | 38mm, observed through a 38mm flame height gauge, adjustable by flow meter |
Burner | Inner diameter is 9.5 mm. It is located in the test cabinet so that the center of its nozzle is 19mm below the center of bottom edge of open end of the sample. It is made of brass and with auto ignition function. |
Specimen Holder | U-shaped bracket: made of two U-shaped corrosion-resistant metal slabs, the upper bracket has 6 pin holes, the lower bracket has 6 pins, the support is in the form of 0.25mm diameter heat-resistant wires spanning the frame at 25mm intervals over the bottom U-shaped frame. The plane of the lower side of samples shall be 178mm above the floor plate. The distance of the front edge of the sample holder from the end of the chamber shall be 22mm, the distance of the longitudinal sides of the sample holder from the sides of the chamber shall be 50mm |
Test Gas | The gas supplied to the burner shall have a calorific value of approximately 38MJ/m³, such as natural gas, city gas, liquefied gas |
Metal Comb | At least 110mm in length, with seven to eight smooth rounded teeth per 25mm |
Combustion Chamber | Length: 385mm, depth: 204mm and height: of 360mm. There are ten venting holes with a diameter of 19mm at the bottom of the combustion chamber. The four side walls have 13mm wide ventilation groove near the top. The top of the combustion chamber is provided with a hole for inserting a thermometer. The hole is arranged at the center of the top, and the center of the hole is 20 mm from the inner side of the rear panel. A collecting tray for collecting molten drippings is placed at the bottom of the combustion chamber, and the tray is placed between the two rows of venting holes without affecting the ventilation of the venting holes. |
