The Residual Voltage Tester complies with clause 8.2.7 of IEC 60598-1:2020 and multiple international standards including IEC 60335-1 Clause 22.5, IEC 60065 Clause 9.1.6, IEC 60601-1, IEC/EN 60598-1 Clause 8.2.7, and IEC 60950-1.

IEC 60598-1 Clause 8.2.7 Requirements
  • Luminaires (with exceptions) incorporating capacitors exceeding 0.5 μF must include a discharge device ensuring voltage across the capacitor does not exceed 50 V within 1 minute after disconnection at rated voltage
  • Portable luminaires connected via plug, track adaptors, or luminaires with accessible supply connectors containing capacitors exceeding 0.1 μF (or 0.25 μF for luminaires rated below 150 V) must discharge to ≤34 V within 1 second after disconnection
  • Other plug-connected luminaires with capacitors exceeding 0.1 μF (or 0.25 μF for luminaires rated below 150 V) and track adaptors must discharge to ≤60 V RMS within 5 seconds after disconnection
  • Testing must be conducted with the lamp in circuit when measuring voltage from compensation capacitors if it leads to more onerous results
  • Residual voltage measurements are performed on individual luminaires, even when installed in multiple luminaire systems
