Water ingress is one of the most important environmental factors affecting the safety, reliability, and service life of electrical and electronic products.

Outdoor lighting, household appliances, automotive components, electrical enclosures, lamps, and other products may be exposed to rain, splashing water, or powerful water jets during actual use. Without adequate enclosure protection, water penetration can lead to corrosion, electrical short circuits, insulation failure, component damage, and even potential safety hazards.

To help manufacturers and testing laboratories evaluate enclosure protection efficiently, Sinuotek has developed a Multi-Function IPX3–IPX6 Water Spray & Jet Test Chamber, designed according to the relevant requirements of IEC 60529 for IPX3, IPX4, IPX5, and IPX6 testing.

A major advantage of this system is its multi-function testing capability.

Instead of requiring separate equipment for different water ingress tests, the chamber integrates the corresponding testing mechanisms for four protection levels:

• IPX3 – Protection against spraying water
• IPX4 – Protection against splashing water
• IPX5 – Protection against water jets
• IPX6 – Protection against powerful water jets

For IPX3 and IPX4 testing, the system is equipped with interchangeable oscillating tubes, including R200 mm, R400 mm, and R600 mm configurations. For IPX5 and IPX6 testing, standard water jet nozzles with 6.3 mm and 12.5 mm apertures are provided.

This integrated configuration makes the equipment particularly suitable for laboratories that need to perform multiple IP protection tests on different products.

The system can be used to evaluate the enclosure protection performance of various electrical and electronic products under simulated water exposure conditions.

The test chamber adopts a 7-inch touch screen and PLC control system, allowing operators to configure and monitor the testing process conveniently.

Test duration can be set from 0 to 999 minutes, while the turntable speed can be adjusted from 1–5 rpm. The turntable can also operate in forward rotation or alternate forward/reverse rotation, which helps reduce cable winding when the specimen is powered during testing.

The equipment also features a built-in water tank with a capacity of approximately 90 L, allowing test water to be recycled during operation. This helps reduce water consumption during repeated testing.

For reliable IP testing, controlling the water flow and test conditions is essential.

The IPX5 and IPX6 functions use dedicated hose nozzles with:

• IPX5 nozzle diameter: 6.3 mm
• IPX6 nozzle diameter: 12.5 mm
• IPX5 water flow: 12.5 ± 0.625 L/min
• IPX6 water flow: 100 ± 5 L/min

The nozzle-to-specimen distance is designed around the requirements of the applicable test method, with the equipment providing a test distance of approximately 2.5 m from the nozzle to the center of the turntable.

For IPX3 and IPX4 testing, the oscillating tubes provide controlled water spraying from different directions, while the rotating turntable helps expose the specimen to the required water conditions.

The chamber features a SUS304 stainless steel inner chamber and turntable, providing good corrosion resistance for long-term exposure to water.

A transparent observation window and internal LED lighting allow operators to observe the specimen during testing. The chamber is also equipped with safety functions including leakage protection, water shortage protection, and short-circuit protection.

The standard chamber has an internal working area of approximately 1400 × 1400 × 1400 mm, while the turntable supports specimens up to approximately 20 kg, making it suitable for a broad range of product testing applications.
